We specialise in developing and operating advanced power stations that provide energy to communities across the country.
Mercia Power Response ensures energy security to the UK as we transition to a Net Zero electricity grid by 2035. We are a key provider of flexible power response services to the UK grid, helping to balance the supply of renewable energy with demand. We specialise in developing and operating advanced power stations that provide energy to communities across the country, ensuring that they can keep the lights on and kettles boiling when supply from renewables is low.
We typically build and operate 5-8MW generation plants connected to localised 11kV networks, which enables us to provide energy quickly and efficiently to households and businesses, in turn delivering strong returns to our investors.
We currently operate 40 sites with a combined capacity of 263MW and have a number of sites under development and construction. We aim to grow our gas-fuelled power station capacity to about 300MW by 2025.
Mercia Power is also developing grid-scale battery storage sites to complement our existing gas fuelled power stations. These batteries will be used to store electricity when there is excess power, to be used during periods when the grid is short of power. We have a strong pipeline of sites, with a combined capacity of over 400MW in the later stages of pre-construction development . These sites are due to come online from mid-2020s and operate beyond 2050, facilitating the electricity system transformation and enable the journey to net zero.
